The Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival, now in its second year at the University of the Sunshine Coast campus, is a free event presented by a four way partnering between the Sunshine Coast Environment Council, Sunshine Coast Regional Council, University of the Sunshine Coast and SEQ Catchments.
As a festival of repute, presented by the Sunshine Coast Environment Council for 27 years at various locations across the Sunshine Coast (from Yandina to Cotton Tree, Twin Waters, and Eumundi), it provides the Sunshine Coast community and visitors with a point of convergence to celebrate and address the 2009 UN Designated theme of ‘Your Planet Needs you - Unite to Combat Climate Change'.
This year’s Festival Sponsors include the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, SEQ Catchments, Auzion and Sajen Legal. Friends of the Festival are Downes Survey Group, PES Exhibitions Solutions and SEQ Healthy Waterways Partnership.
Inkind support hails from a growing list of businesses such as Fran Leman Design and Queensland Complete Printing Services and the many volunteers.
Media partners 91.9 Sea FM and the Sunshine Coast Daily will ensure ‘word gets out’ about the array of campus-wide activities, and a program with something for everyone - from the Traditional 'Welcome to Country' by the Gubbi Gubbi custodians and Festival opening by Mayor Abbot to the Speakers Series, World Music Centre Stage, Student Recycle Fashion Parade, Transition Town, Natrual Resource Management displays and presentations, Green Biz Expo, Low CO2 Transport Display, a combined youth Chill-Out and Buskers’ Zone, Children's Activities, Short Film, Wildlife Display, Market Stalls, Local Produce, Healthy Food, Beverages and Giveaways, Sunshine Coast Environment Council and member displays - as such all generations and walks of life will find much to engage with.
A festival guide complete with personalised messages from Mayor Bob Abbot and Senator Bob Brown, will be available in the Sunshine Coast Daily prior to the event and copies will be available on the day.
To register for Festival opportunities either as a participant for the Green Biz Expo, Sponsor, Volunteer or inkind supporter, contact Project Manager Sandra Conte or the Sunshine Coast Environment Council 07 5441 5747.
